16" EARLY PRESSED GERMAN CHINA HEAD DOLL
16" Early Pressed German China Head Doll

An early German china head doll (of porcelain) with a pressed head of black molded hair, a "flat top" hairstyle, also known as "high brow china," a white center part, swept-back curls on side and ten sausage curls around the head. She has lovely painted blue eyes with white accents and lightly blushed cheeks on a white "skin," that gives her an elegant, yet striking appearance. Her face is carefully painted with even brows, red lid lines, black lash lines, irises outlined in a darker blue and black eye dots with red nostrils. Her sweet smile curves into a small smile. Shoulderplate is of the scarcer type with a six-hole attachment sewed to the original cotton muslin body. The doll's body appears to be complete and original with the original clothing. [If not original, the body and clothing have been together a long time.] There are no noticeable maker's markings. [Did not remove the head from the body.] Very minor paint loss to a couple of the sausage curls. China head and breastplate in wonderful condition measuring 4 1/2 inches high and 4 inches across at the widest point of the shoulders. Circa 1850 to 1860.

PRICE: $450
