BWKS Silver Art Deco Compote Bremer

A great art deco compote in hammered silver by the German maker BWKS (Bremer Werkstätten für Kunstgewerbliche Silberarbeiten (Co.) and Master, Wilhelm Schulze, Bremen, c. 1890-1947 and D. Andersen/Norway. Fully hallmarked and with alloy 835/1000.

History of the BWKS

Wilhelm Schulze was born in Norway and learned his craft in Oslo, before settling in Germany. In the year 1920, Bremen silver forging master Wilhelm Schulze created the company - of Bremen workshops for art-commercial silver work briefly BWKS. For a short time, Schulze and its Norwegian employer, D. Anderson of Oslo, led the company. Andersen withdrew himself from the company and Wilhelm Schulze resumed the company BWKS in Bremen alone.

In the war the apartment and factory of the company were completely destroyed. In the year 1947 the company founder Wilhelm Schulze died. In the same year his son Richard Schulze began with the reconstruction of the destroyed business premises in the same place. Richard Schulze led the enterprise up to the year 1981 and passed the line of the company to his son Björn Schulze.
