GERMAN SILVER COIN PURSE
An exquisite little coin purse made circa 1880 in German Silver and signed as such. A lovely circular shape it is ornately decorated in the most beautiful and oh-so Victorian floral design. The coin purse was meant to hang on a chatelaine. Chatelaines were decorative hooks or buckles that Victorian ladies wore on their belts from which was suspended several useful items on chains such as pocket watches, note pads and pencils, scissors, coin purses, match safes, needle cases, etc. All of these little necessities would be housed within ornate silver cases, adding beauty to function. This coin purse also has a finger loop. The case opens by pushing the little button at the top and this mechanism is in perfect working order. Every aspect of this piece is original. It measures 1 1/4 inches in diameter and 1 3/4 inches from top to bottom. The size of coin holders are approximately the size of an American dime and nickel.
