A 19th century oil on canvas portrait of John Quaid, who was born in County Limerick, Ireland, 1803; Died at Newburgh, New York, 1869, 66 years. [Per note written on the back.] In good condition. Canvas has been stretched and rebacked. Size size: 18 3/4 x 23 1/4 inches. Overall measurement: 24 3/4 x 29 inches.
A Record of the Inscriptions in the OLD TOWN BURYING GROUND of Newburgh, NY, Historical Society of Newburgh Bay & the Highlands, 1898, records the tombstone inscription as: "John QUAID, d. Jul 18, 1869, aged 66 yrs, also, his wife, Mary QUAID, d. Mar 2, 1884, aged 64 yrs."
John Quaid was the founder of the present families of that name in Newburgh. He was for many years a grocer, and a man of honorable reputation.
