OLD HICKORY MARTINSVILLE WINGBACK CHAIR W/LABEL AND BRANDED MARK
A great rustic wingback chair made by Old Hickory, Martinsville, Indiana, with split hickory back and seat. Retains the round dime-size copper tag that reads "Genuine Old Hickory, Bruce Preserved, 36, Martinsville, IN." Also, branded "Old Hickory, Martinsville, Indiana" on the stretcher between the back legs. Made in 1936. Very good condition.
The Old Hickory Furniture Company was formed in Martinsville in 1892, incorporating in 1899. In the early years (1890s - 1920s) and later years (1940s - 1970s) they affixed a paper label (sometimes round and sometimes square). In the 1930s they started using a round dime-size copper tag. The number in the center of the tag is the year the piece was made.
Measures 32 inches wide and 41 inches tall with a 17 inch seat height.
