Catharine Jemison 1845 Sheraton Blanket Chest

A Sheraton blanket chest in original yellow paint with original blue paint on lid and panels; black feet. Marked on front "Catharine A.D. 1845 Jemison."
Measures 50 inches wide, 26 inches high, and 20 inches deep

The 1860 U.S. federal census lists a Catherine Jemison, age 39, birth year about 1821, with a home in Wrightsville, York, Pennsylvania. She was of mulatto race and was married to W. Jemison, age 55, a cigar maker. They had four children: James C. (age 11); Melezena (age 13); William T. (age 8); and John L. (age 5). They also had an adopted child R.C. Wright (age 5). A cabinetmaker by the name of J. Detwiler, Jr. lived near them in Wrightsville. It's possible (not confirmed) that this blanket chest is from the York area and this family.
