SANTO NINO DE JESUS (CHRIST CHILD)
A charming 18th century carved and polychrome painted and gesso figure of the Christ child in original clothing and sandals. This is an extremely well done figure with glass eyes and formed hair with fine details even to the finger nails and toe nails. The arms are jointed--wooden pegged to the body. Feet are wooden pegged to the base. The child holds a world with a cross on top in one hand. Condition is very good. Some damage to the formed hair on one side. It does appear that something was attached to the head at one time. Measures 17 1/4 inches tall. Base measures 5 1/2 inches square.
Niche with original paint and in as found condition accompanies. Measures 23 1/4 high, 16 inches wide, and 11 1/2 inches deep.
