Frontispiece engravings with tissue guards, 32 superb full-page engravings, 16 maps, and many illustrations within the text by John Karst, J.M. Richardson, Jos. Harley among others. Volume 1 embracing the period prior to the Revolution, closing in 1774. Volume II embracing the century of national independence, closing in 1880. This work was a labor of love for Mrs. Lamb who spent more than a dozen years researching and writing the work. All the important people, places, and events are covered in detail. It was considered the finest and most complete history of New York of its time.
Burgandy Decorated Cloth. Gilt stamping to spine and front cover. Gilt pages. Wear and fading to spines and covers, ex-libris of Franklin Public Library pasted inside back cover and back end paper, several early pages in Volume 1 separated but still attached. Both volumes have minor yellowing and breakage to front and back hinges, with handwriting on the title pages denoting author's maiden name. Contains signature and date, L Lewis, May 1, 1897.
