AUSTRIAN PORTRAIT PLATE QUEEN LOUISE OF PRUSSIA
A porcelain portrait plate featuring Queen Louise of Prussia. The plate is marked on the reverse side "Imperial Alma Austria." The transfer on this plate appears to have been taken from a portrait painted by Gustav Karl Ludwig Richter in 1879. This portrait now hangs in the Cologne Museum. Gustav Richter was born in Berlin in August 1823, thirteen years after the death of Louise. The portrait was painted 69 years after her death. No information is available on the model for the painting.
The plate measures 10 inches in diameter. Framed nicely in a 16 1/2 inch square gold frame.
