WILLETS AMERICAN BELLEEK TANKARD
American Belleek tankard with handpainted grapes and foliage all around on a tinted green background; dragon-shaped handle. Willets Mark 2 Serpent with "Belleek," in brown circa middle 1880s to 1909. Signed by the artist "K. Eichleay." Measures 15 inches high and 6 1/2 inches wide at the base. In excellent condition.
Three brothers, Joseph, Daniel, and Edmund Willets founded Willets Manufacturing Company in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1879. The company remained in business for over thirty years. Willets is best known for its Belleek porcelain. The red, brown, or black marks may be found on factory decorated pieces, but the brown and black marks also appear on non-factory decorated objects.
